The Touring Car Trophy for Super Touring, Group A and other tin-tops of the 1970-2000 era had a successful outing at this year’s Silverstone Classic. So successful, in fact, they have been asked to return for the next instalment of the Classic in 2013.
A huge – and hugely varied – field of iconic machinery from European, British and German Touring Car championships competed in the double header event.
The focus, however, was very much on the Super Touring vehicles, which clearly had an advantage over their Group A and pre-1992 DTM brethren – locking out the podium paces in both races – but there was still plenty of action going on throughout the field.
Not least when Craig Davies – behind the wheel of Chris Hodgetts’ Ford Sierra RS500 – had an incredible wall-flirting moment at Woodcote during race one, which lead me to write the following missive on Twitter:
Hope someone managed to capture Craig Davies’ unbelievable save in the touring car race just then. Disaster averted in fine style.

Well, thankfully, somebody did. That someone being Davies himself, who has uploaded his terrifying tankslapping moment to the wondrous archival paradise that is YouTube, ready for us to gasp in amazement at.
Save of the season? I should coco.

I gasped. In amazement, no less.
